Living in France

We arrived in Paris this morning via Newark on a redeye. And yes, Trixie was stellar in air. She didn't make a peep, or even a pee or a poo. Yeah, Trixie. We found our apartment which wasn't ready for us because we were mad early. The landlords (Sebastien and J.B.) told us to familiarize ourselves with the neighborhood. It was really cold and early so no one was out, it felt wet, and oh yeah, by the way, it was a national holiday. May 1st is Labor Day in France so at the airport they gave us a muguet, or Lily of the Valley flower. It's tradition, though I did see some vendeuses selling lilacs instead. Half the restaurants and stores were closed because it was a holiday but we made do with the time we had. We walked all the way over to the Seine and Trixie is getting used to not only the weather, but having to go to the bathroom when we go on a walk as opposed to at home, where she just walks into the backyard at her leisure.
We saw the traditional padlocks on the bridges. Very romantic. I plan on doing this with Aaron and Trixie before we leave. You're supposed to lock them together and then onto the bridge, and then throw the key into the river. It sounds so old fashioned. We then took Trixie to Notre Dame because she simply HAD to see it. The lines were crazy long though, since it was a free day for everyone. The cathedral is celebrating 850 years this year and they have a huge stadium seating area in front so you can't take dead on photos anymore. Dommage! I plan on going inside soon.
We're living in a very nice area with lots of restaurants, shops, and all the essentials. We live in Rue Commines.
Aaron saw this "map" on our walk home which is pretty bad ass. It's similar to one that we saw in Paris vs New York though that used the opposite city.
For dinner we were crazy and ordered escargot. I am not going to lie, I was scared. I had them....ONCE. And by once, I mean, I had one, and I was 10, and my dad didn't tell me it was a snail until after I swallowed it. So I didn't really remember the sensation or taste of snails. Aaron pushed for the meal to be ballsy and try something new so we dug in. I ate 4/12 which is 1/3 of the snails, so I want a round of applause for myself. They actually tasted fine, less rubbery than calamari. Would I order them again? I guess, but it seems to be very bad for you, being that they're swimming in garlic butter. We ended the dinner with dessert, a mille-feuille. OMG so good!
