I went to Popelini, a cream puff patisserie near my house today. OMG they are the cutest little things, and by little, I mean microscopic. I don't think it's a place we'll be going often but by the time we leave Paris, maybe we'll have tried every flavor? Aaron got the chou du jour which was taller and had chantilly cream. Tasted fantastic. I got the framboise rose, which was both raspberry and rose flavored. I think my friend Elaine Silver would have died to have one.
Inside, mine was gooey with a framboise filling. I'd get it again for sure.
Later today, I took Trixie for the longest walk ever down the Champs Elysees. We came across a Laduree! OMG have to go inside. Trixie got to go inside, but as 'un espionne', or spy. She was in her crate and no one knew. I got 4 flavors for both Aaron and myself. Marie Antoinette, Pistache, Melon, and Fraise Menthe.
After eating 3 of the flavors I can say with confidence that Laduree makes damn good macarons and I will have to do some taste tests with other big wigs around here. Aaron didn't love the melon one (said it tasted like chewing gum) but I adored it. I can't tell what Marie Antoinette is though Aaron said it definitely has orange rind in it. I LOVED the fraise menthe one which is strange because I was totally afraid of it. Aaron said the pistache one is phenom!
Can't wait to go back and try some crazier colors and flavors. Or their other desserts.
